Edinburgh Queer Lindy Festival

The Edinburgh Queer Lindy Festival aims to challenge the notion that dancers must identify strictly as men or women, recognizing the existence of non-binary and gender-diverse dancers. While it is encouraging to see diverse gender representation in dancing, the binary system still persists. The festival strives to create an inclusive environment where everyone can dance authentically, free from limiting structures.
Additionally, the festival acknowledges its place in the Black American culture of dance and music, committing to participate with respect and appreciation as White European dancers.
Inspired by the Gothenburg Queer Lindy Festival, this mini-festival has been a space since 2019 for individuals to explore various dance roles, regardless of gender or experience. It aims to enhance visibility for the LGBTQ+ community within the Scottish swing dance scene.
