The Gothenburg Queer Lindy Festival is a welcoming space for queer dancers and allies of all skill levels. It invites queer individuals looking to learn Lindy Hop in an inclusive environment, as well as allies who support the festival’s vision.
The festival acknowledges that the roots of swing music and Lindy Hop lie in Black culture, with many early dancers being Black, queer, and marginalized individuals. Contemporary dancers must recognize their role as guests in this rich cultural tradition, which was established over a century ago.

This event celebrates the contributions of Black and queer individuals, who continue to face various forms of disadvantage in society. For those who are not African-American, it’s essential to honor the origins of the dance. Allies are encouraged to learn how to better support queer dancers while understanding that they are guests in this shared space.

The goal of the Gothenburg Queer Lindy Festival is to create a fun, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere for all participants, both in classes and on the dance floor. It aims to ensure that queer individuals and people of color feel valued, comfortable, and at home.
